Wisdom in proverbs

Proverbs 2:1-5

1: My son if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you
2: So that you incline your ear to wisdom and apply your heart to understanding.
3:  Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift your voice for understanding
4: If you seek her as silver and search her for hidden treasures.
5: Then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

Proverbs are well known sayings for gaining wisdom and instruction and they complement skill and discipline.

No skill is perfect without discipline. And true wisdom apart from God is impossible.

Authority springs from experience which is found in the word and applying it to everyday life.

Who or what is the desire of your heart?

Verse 1 if we receive – take it in -know it – treasure it.
The emphasis here is on IF as we meditate on the word and read it constantly then we can receive and begin to perceive the treasure in them. Only His words bring light.

Verse 2 Set your ears to hear wisdom – listen for Him learn to be still in His presence and just listen.  It sometimes helps if you have a pen and paper beside you and just write what you hear or think it’s a great way of understanding and finding out whether it is you or God speaking. Apply your heart to understanding. Change your way of thinking.  (Matt5 :13-16)

Verse 3 cry out for discernment – in other words get active Lift up your voice let it be heard in the atmosphere

Verse 4 seek it as you would silver its precious – search it as you would look for hidden treasure. Look, seek, dig put in the effort – the outcome will be precious

Verse 5 Then after you have received His treasures you will begin to understand the Holy fear that comes from above and have such a reverence of your father in heaven.
